Brothers
With the production Brothers (2004) Teater Joker invited the audience into a dark world. A world in which the one you trust is gone and your childhood friends are not who they seem to be. Where the hero may be a Bluebeard and the reality you know turns its insides out. Buffoonery meets sobriety. Anxiety meets happiness. Fairytales meet crime.

In Brothers by Teater Joker the story about the five childhood friends is told through switches, transitions and images, through which the actors’ bodies and voices make up the framework for the spectator’s imagination.
Brothersbuilds on poetry to a large degree, not just the way of literature, but also the way of body language, movement and imagery. The chaotic, spatial and hybrid expression becomes a meeting between different expressions, artistic and cultural. The production avoids the one-dimensional and gets close to something youth of today know well: The virtual.
Teater Joker uses a technique related to the virtual: Cartoon mime. The basis for cartoon mime is an empty room in which the performers create all that happens, with their bodies as a framework for the imagination of the spectator. The expression uses techniques we recognise from the movies, such as slow motion, overview vistas, fast forward, close-ups and music.
Brotherscontinues examining the expression Teater Joker used in the production Rike Per* (Rich Per). The stage is more or less free of props, and the actors’ bodies work as tools and expressions. In several sequences the actors wear masks, and the production spins around the keyword of "duality" in theme and expression.
Brothers was supported by The Open Theatre (Det Åpne Teater), Oslo University College, Arts Council Norway, The Audio Visual Fund and The Norwegian Actors’ Equity Association’s fund for freelancers.
