Sirkus Gorilla* (Circus Gorilla) by Karlsvogna Theatre: The ringmaster’s daughter Mona Lisa is a tightrope walker wishing to become a clown, such as the clown Tøysekopp (a name literally meaning Silly Billy). The two of them fall in love, opposed by the mean animal tamer Samson. He wants Mona Lisa for himself and tries to hinder the others’ love by all means. The tightrope walker and the clown decide to escape and to release all the animals in the circus, so that everyone – animals as well as human – can be free to make their own choices and be where they want to be. That is, to decide their own destiny.

Press coverage

"Talking animals, funny lines and some love. In Sirkus Gorilla* (Circus Gorilla) you experience this and a lot more. Several hundred people had found their way to Risøbank to see Sirkus Gorilla* (Circus Gorilla). There wasn’t much to criticise." Trine Stalsberg. Lindesnes Avis

"Sirkus Gorilla* (Circus Gorilla) is a sweepingly great performance for the whole family, paying as much attention to the small ones as the bigger ones. At least. () The old classical conflict between the evil and the good, wrapped in vital frames being almost surreal from time to time. With jugglers, speaking animals, sweeping music, song and dance. The audience was placed very, very close to the outdoors stage. This is live theatre bearing the brand of good." Jon Selås. VG

"Karl Sundby captivated the Southern-Norwegian small-town harmony of Mandal, when the family musical Sirkus Gorilla* (Circus Gorilla) had its premiere." Se og Hør

"Great fun for the whole family! Out of the circus swarm onstage, or in the ring, certain destinies and stories step forward. They catch the interest of the children and the adults. (...) There are moments of drama and moments of beautiful poetry. The play has its morals, or a message, so to speak. It revolves around letting children be children, allow the small ones their freedom and to respect the individual’s life choices. Plus it is fun. Not just for the small ones, here are wordplays and little details ticking the mood of the adult, too. (...) The performance is recommended at the warmest." Emil Otto Syvertsen. Fædrelandsvennen
