In Alice by Katrine Bølstad/KNOT the day-dreaming Alice falls down into Wonderland and has to look herself in the eye: The content of the bottles brings her into different conditions. The play is very loosely based on Lewis Caroll’s Alice in Wonderland. The performance moves between the universe of toys and horror parodies, between visual effects and dance.
When Alice falls down through the ground, the names are removed from the objects they belong to. Objects and words both lose their meanings, and even Alice’s own name disappears in the fall. The freedom to arise is funny, but scary. The audience meets a wordless Alice using the language of her body in an attempt at recreating meaning and identity, while being continuously misled in the world of the fairytales.
Katrine Bølstad has made her mark with a characteristic and expression-rich dance style. She was a member of the company Kikut, charming selective spectators at European theatre venues, as well as old and young at home.
In Alice Katrine Bølstad, Thomas Østbye and Hai Nguyen Dinh have intertwined video, music and dance.
