With ANARCHIV#3: Songs of Love and War deufert&plischke enters its tenth year as an artist duo. The production combines two intentions: An attempt at creating a setting in which the audience and the artists can successfully collaborate on the expression, and an attempt at breaking down and retell the complex collective German legend material from the time of mass migrations which is part of Das Nibelungenlied or The Song of the Nibelungs, and how this was transformed into the mega opus Ring des Nibelungen or The Ring Cycle by Richard Wagner.

Pianist and conductor Alain Franco has for the occasion transcribed Wagner's score to a piece for piano, while the choreographers Eva Bernhard, Jasmin Ihraç and Britta Wirtmüller have translated the text material in Nibelungenlied to choreography. In addition the art philosopher Marcus Steinweg lectures on the subjects of love and war.

The audience moves onstage among the performers, a grand piano and several posters with quotes, noticeboards, study material, different tables with a diversity of memory games, a particular photo station, balloons - in other words, a number of things to eye and deal with.

The duo dufert&plischke has collaborated since 2001. The two calls each other artist twins. Together they teach composition, movement and aesthetic at universities and art schools in Europe and South America.

Press coverage

"The entire Ring, distilled to its central motifs, is presented to our ears and eyes with subtlety".

Hamburger Abendblatt, April 1 2011

"The German choreographers Deufert and Plischke draw the most radical conclusion from the current state of affairs. Their belief is that, just as one can never reconstruct someone else's work, one's own work also defies reconstruction and even complete understanding (...) even the spectator has an influence on it. For this reason they often invite other choreographers to turn their work upside down and reshape it"

De Morgen, Pieter Tjonck
