Screened Out
The dance solo Screened Out (2005) by Winter Guests/Alan Lucien Øyen came as a development of the outset and the material produced working with the solo performance Excerpts of citation without context. The artistic goal for the performance Screened Out was to investigate how you, with an equal thematic outset, can work with an opposite form solution.
With "too much information" as a project basis both for Excerpts of citation without context and Screened Out, for Alan Lucien Øyen it was interesting how we can talk about this both by literally overinform, but also by not informing.

How do you explain sound pollution without the use of sound? The solo Screened Out by Winter Guests/Alan Lucien Øyen was meant to contrast Excerpts of citation without context (which to a great extent is a verbal statement) by depending as much as possible on the choreography/movement the dancer performed.
The two pieces talk about how the idea of increased individuality through interactivity is a misunderstood concept. We are actually assimilating or adapting more and more: we are so absorbed by what is communicated to us that we begin to feed back the same stream of information. The result is like feedback itself - when the source is too close to the receiver feedback ensues, distorting the transmission and the actual information.
Although originally thought as the second half in a double bill with Excerpts of citation without context, Screened Out has been performed on its own.
Screened Out by Winter Guests/Alan Lucien Øyen was supported by the Arts Council Norway and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs/MFA (travel grant/performing arts).
