Jesus sa: Gå nå du Maria, jeg orker ikke mer…* (Jesus said: Go now, Mary, I can’t take it any more) by Haugen Produksjoner is more about the ritual than the religious. Not without humour it also describes today’s woman.
Artistic leader at Dansens Hus in Oslo, Karene Lyngholm, took the initiative to Jesus sa: Gå nå du Maria, jeg orker ikke mer...
The point of interest was the relationship between voice and dance, plus the Sami and the Norwegian explored by Boine and Haugen. The two artists worked separately with the material and eventually together, based on the Biblical female character of Mary, the way she is described in the Gnostic writings.
Included onstage are three musicians from Mari Boine Band, plus a mood-inducing installation by the visual artist Lawrence Malstaf. Director Indra Lorentzen has made her mark on the production through the distinct meeting points of text, movement and song.
The world wide premiere took place at Dansens Hus October 11 2008.
Jesus sa: Gå nå du Maria, jeg orker ikke mer… by Haugen Produksjoner was supported by Arts Council Norway, the Sami assembly Sámediggi and The Audio Visual Fund.

"Together they complement each other in Jesus Sa: Gå Nå Du Maria, Jeg Orker Ikke Mer...* (Jesus said: Go now Mary, I can’t take it any more). This is a production which is hard to describe in words, but it sits in your skin. They take turns using their powerful talents. The physical delivery of grandioso dance is accompanied by the distinct vocal stanzas of Mari Boine, in English, Sami and Norwegian. The performance is visually mysterious and it provides room for interpretations at several levels. Scenically it is minimalist and the moods are made clearer through simple costume changes and a little selection of symbolist elements. The song of Boine alone gives the audience goosebumps, while Haugen’s dance is a visual anchor as well as the disturbance that creates dynamic and contrasts in the performance."
