Busses and stories
Busses and stories is the largest theatre production Samovarteateret AKA The Samovar Theatre has made with international performers. The production included 26 involved performers from Norway, Finland, Russia, Catalonia, Georgia, Armenia, Turkey and Azerbaijan. Busses and stories was inspired by the thought of how far one is willing to stretch to get closer to other people, across borders, and at the same time it touched the most traditional of all relationships; the meeting between man and woman.

Busses and stories by Samovarteateret AKA The Samovar Theatre was performed in four different places in Kirkenes: Outside on a square, in an old bunker, aboard a Russian trawler and inside in the venue Scene 2. The audience was transported between the different venues in buses with each their guide. All in all nine different languages were actively used onstage.
According to Samovarteatret, the performance is built up around a wedding. The company describes the production in the following manner:
"The persons in the wedding are from different cultures. And we will tell some of the stories of the families and the people who are guests in this wedding. The performance will be played outdoors at three different locations and in two busses. The busses will transport the audience and the crew between the various outdoor performance locations, eventually congregating at the indoor location, SCENE 2. In our performance there will be a total of 9 languages represented. We will include some main sentences in Norwegian and English to help the audience follow the verbal performance. We will also research the differences and similarities in the tones and sounds that exist in the different cultures which are represented by the artists."
"Border culture is above all a culture of misunderstandings. We are crossing the border, therefore we shall be misunderstood"
- Guillermo Gomez-Pena
