Danish Dance Theatre was established under the name Nyt Dansk Danseteater (New Danish Dance Theatre) in 1981 by English-Norwegian choreographer Randi Patterson in collaboration with Anette Abildgaard, Ingrid Buchholtz, Mikala Barnekow and soon also Warren Spears.
From 2001 Tim Rushton has been the artistic director of the company, and he has further developed the idea that classical and modern art forms are to be united. Danish Dance Theatre is put together by dancers of many nations.
Danish Dance Theatre tours nationally and internationally, in addition to performing in Copenhagen. The company activity is supported by The Danish Ministry of Culture and The Danish Arts Council, and also receives support for individual productions by private funds.
