Romeo Castellucci was born and raised in Cesena, Italy. After studying agriculture in his home town Castellucci travelled to the art academy in Bologna, where he was educated within stage design and painting. His theatre debut took place as early as 1980 and in 1981 he established the company Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio with Claudia Castellucci and Chiara Guidi.
Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio is the most radical exponent of the Italian "nuovo teatro" (literally: new theatre). Castellucci considers the theatre to be an art expression with potential to connect all art forms and genres, at its best touching all the senses of the audience. Castellucci and his company enjoy much respect all over the world.
Through Romeo Castellucci: artist presentation and conversation BIT gave its audience a chance to get to know a theatre artist who has moved and captured the interest of theatre audiences since the early 1990es.
The event was part of a longer series presenting artists, whose contributions and efforts have been determining for the artistic platform and orientation of BIT Teatergarasjen.
