Prøysenhuset is managed as a museum and activity house, on a full-year basis, from April 1 2013 as a subdepartment of the culture department of the municipality of Ringsaker. Annually the house is visited by approximately 20 000 people. Among other things it contains an exhibition on Alf Prøysen's life and work, a well-equipped theatre venue, a gallery with temporary exhibitions, a playroom and a museum store. The café, Kafé Julie, is named after Alf Prøysen's mother.

The festival Prøysenfestivalen is arranged annually, with Prøysenhuset as its headquarters. The program is every year published at the theatre's webpage www.proysenfestivalen.no, whereas Prøysenhuset uses the webpage www.proysenhuset.no.

The building of Prøysenhuset was financed by a donation from the financier Arthur Buchardt, with the activity financed by the municipality and the government.
