The Wooster Group has always been based in The Performing Garage. The garage was bought during the 1970es, when Soho was still abounding with empty warehouses. The Wooster Group owns part of the garage and is a part of Grand Street Artists Co-op.
In the spring program of BIT Teatergarasjen 2000 the following is written:
"The Wooster Group's productions are complex and technically brilliant, with performative elements found in the contemporary as well as in tradition. (...) Between the musical mastodons of Broadway and the contemporary mainstream off-Broadway, The Wooster Group has worked in New York's more experimental theatre community, often referred to as off-off-Broadway, a prolongation of the new American theatre avant garde of the 1950es and 60es. Among these The Wooster Group is the very spearhead, in the metropolis as well as the world."
The company has visited Norway twice; with House/Lights in 2000, and with Vieux Carré in 2011.
