Tara Teateret (The Tara Theatre) is characterised by visuality and image composition as a basis for improvisations in its work.
"We work within a performance tradition influenced by visual performance, in which images (static or live as in film) and room are components of equal status in a production, just like light/music and movement, acting and non-acting are. The room/architecture we perform in, either indoors or outdoors, often make the foundation for shaping the project’s content and visuality. Non-verbalisation is central and the interpretation is not obvious. We tell no unambiguous story, but the one the spectators join in on creating by using their imagination in meeting with our artistic expression. The key words are improvisation, rituals and experimenting with installations, costumes, light, sound, voice and movement", the company describes.
Experimental music (a mix of jazz, new music and traditional folk music) creates moods and sound collages appealing to people’s imagination and creative abilities. Video is often used as an integral part of concerts and performances. The aim with using several media is evocation and creating an atmosphere the spectators can be captured by, building worlds of their own.
