The Year of Magical Thinking

The Year of Magical Thinking is a play by Joan Didion. It has been translated into the Norwegian as De magiske tankers år and as Et år med magiske tanka (the latter in Northern Norwegian dialect).

Didion first wrote a memoir in shape of a long essay, called The Year of Magical Thinking, about her first year as a widow, after her husband, John Gregory Dunne, died in January 2004. This was published as a book in 2005. Later she adapted her text for the theatre, and the play had its world premiere in 2007. The play version covers a slightly wider period of time and also includes the death of John Gregory Dunne and Joan Didion's daughter, Quintana Roo Dunne Michaels, in 2005.
