Les Misérables
Les Misérables is a musical by Alain Boublil (book and lyrics) and Claude-Michel Schönberg (book and music). It had its world premiere in Paris in 1980. The original title in French also is Les Misérables, and the Norwegian-language version of the musical uses the same title. In the English-language libretto, the lyrics have been adapted from the French by Herbert Kretzmer.
Les Misérables is based on the novel Les Misérables by Victor Hugo. Over the years, it has been translated into the English under several different titles, including The Miserables, The Wretched, The Miserable Ones, The Poor Ones, The Wretched Poor, The Victims and The Dispossessed, but it is best known under its French original title. The Norwegian translation of the novel is known as De elendige.
The musical is often referred to simply as Les Mis.
