Tim Carroll

Tim Carroll is a British director and artistic director.

In particular, Carroll is known as a Shakespeare director. He started his career with the English Shakespeare Company, for whom he directed Julius Caesar, Cymbeline and The Tempest.

At The Globe, London the productions he has directed include The Two Noble Kinsmen, Macbeth, Twelfth Night, Richard II, Romeo and Juliet and The Tempest.

Further Tim Carroll has directed The Merchant of Venice (RSC), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Sydney Opera House) and All's Well That Ends Well for the National Theatre of Craiova, Romania.

Tim Carroll also has directed many opera productions, including Britten's The Turn of the Screw for Opera Oviedo, Spain, Britten's Canticles for the Liceu, Barcelona and The Barber of Seville for Opera Holland Park.

"Tim Carroll was employed as a director at The Globe in London between 1999 and 2005, and is not just known for his competence in tradition and text, but also for his playful interaction with the classic material. As late as 2012 Carroll staged Twelfth Night in London, with Stephen Fry in one of the main parts. This production was filmed and screened in cinemas all over the world in 2013, including in Bergen. In October 2013 the production transferred to Broadway in New York."
