Monica Emilie Herstad is a certified teacher in dance, has professional competence and graduate diploma as a dancer, plus competence as a lecturer. She has taken further education in choreography and improvisation, after completing The National Academy of Ballet, Oslo. She has had master classes with Min Tanaka, as his dancer, and partly choreography assistant, producer and casting responsible for five of his production.

She started dancing classic ballet as a nine year old and completed a full-day pre-study in dance prior to The National Academy of Ballet. In 2008 she completed a three year guest scholar residency at The Centre for Ibsen Studies at The University of Oslo. Herstad teaches and holds guest lectures and workshops at university level all over the world, for professionals, MA students and BA students within theatre, dance and visual art, in addition to her artistic work.

Her productions, both commissions and her own full-length productions, number 17 per November 2011.

Her articles are published in professional journals, 25 of which are also collected in an anthology published in 2010. See www.herStay.net

In 2011 she was awarded the South Korean Silver Prize for her work Movers and shakers - Tangible channeling the existence of nature. In 2008 her work was awarded Ibsen International Awards Stipend.

Monica Emilie Herstad is a former recipient of the Norwegian government's working grant for younger artists.
