In Dyret som nektet* (The Animal Who Refused) by Hege Haagenrud the animals soon feel comfortable, they nag, talk all the time, laugh loudly and play too much at inappropriate times.
The Swede is one of the animals who have moved in with the boy.
The other animals hate the Swede, he disagrees with everything the rest of them say, he brags, he is greedy, he talks louder than them, and in Swedish! – some of them also think he smells strange. Every time the Swede says something, the others go quiet, just so that he should understand how stupid he is. He doesn’t, however, and one day the other animals can’t take it anymore, and together they throw him out.
They shouldn’t have done that! It turns out that the neighbour is hunting trophies, and he is one animal short in his collection: The Swede!
Dyret som nektet develops into a thriller, in which the boy who is terrified for his neighbour has to show a courage he hasn’t got to save the Swede, well aided by the other animals who have collectively forgotten that they were who put the Swede in danger of his life.
Hege Haagenrud is a freelance choreographer educated at The National Academy of Ballet in Oslo and Studio Harmonic in Paris.
Dyret som nektet was supported by Arts Council Norway.
