Culpa! I unntakstilstand* (Culpa. In a state of emergency)
Culpa! I unntakstilstand* (Culpa. In a state of emergency) (2020) was a digital theatre production by Kilden Theatre. Culpa! I unntakstilstand was based on a text by Taro Vestøl Cooper, inspired by Jens Bjørneboe's poem Mea Maxima Culpa. The production was meant to be performed as street theatre, but due to the Corona pandemic the spring of 2020, it was made as a digital performance, and broadcast via Youtube.
Mine Nilay Yalcin directed it.
The production was among Kilden Theatre's contributions to the Bjørneboe jubilee in 2020.
In the production, the actors performed live in Kilden, against a 360 degree camera. The recording was streamed in real time to audiences via Youtube. By moving the phone/tablet/mouse, the spectators could choose where to look. After the performance, spectators could chat live with the performers.

"Of the earth we made a slaughterhouse! is a line from Jens Bjørneboe's well-known poem Mea Maxima Culpa (meaning my great guilt). It makes an impression to read it in the situation the world is in, and has recently been in. The poem is the basis for the text Culpa! by the slam poet Taro Vestøl Cooper, based on an idea by director Mine Nilay Yalcin. The text was developed with youth from Kristiansand, and it is among Kilden Theatre's contributions to the Bjørneboe jubilee in 2020.
Covid-19 causes a special, contrast-filled existence for most of us, a mix of isolation and invasion, intimacy and distance. We hope that Culpa! I unntakstilstand reflects this. The text also discusses indifference in our time. How social media affects our narratives and the way we follow stories. It is about being heard in a sea of stories online. About youth who carries important messages - which disappear in the chaos of commercials, likes and emojis."
