In the movie Scarface Al Pacino plays the main part as a Cuban gangster climbing from an existence as a rookie soldier to a cocaine baron in the underworld of Miami. In the theatre version Eddie Ladd plays the gangster. The production is a mix of androgynous aesthetic and macho gangster theatre.
Scarface is a film study in which the acting technique and the movie choreography are transferred to stage. Part of the aim is to attempt to demonstrate how different film and theatre really are.
Eddie Ladd began making her own theatre productions during the 1990es. Since then she has made Callas Sings Mad Songs and Unglucklicherweise and several other acknowledged productions. She also has worked for the prestigious performance company Brith Gof. Her artistic goal is "Making Welsh work in Wales and touring it everywhere".
Scarface was supported by Arts Council of Wales and Beryl Davies-Griffiths.
The performance in Avant Garden was supported by Arts Council Norway.
