The Sami Man?

In The Sami Man? by the Southern Sami theatre company Åarjelhsaemien Teatere the actor Mikkel Gaup brought the audience along on a journey with the Sami man. The tour went from childhood, playing and love via jealousy and friendship to the meeting with one’s self and the spiritual. In the luggage were humour, sobriety and a bit of self-depreciation.

The Sami Man? emphasised the special and the universal, and the universal in the special, plus the one who is universal and special. Åarjelhsaemien Teatere aimed with The Sami Man? to challenge, examine and expand the myth about the Sami man. Among the texts used as assistance were texts by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Goethe, Steinbeck and Homer.
