"In a stylish Manhattan apartment, four Americans meet for dinner. Amir is a lawyer, born in USA and brought up in a Muslim family. His girlfriend is Emily, an up-and-coming American artist, inspired by Islamic art and tradition.
They are visited by Jory, an African-American lawyer who works for the same firm as Amir. She arrives with her boyfriend Isaac, a Jewish art curator, who wants to include art works by Emily in his next exhibition.
Everything points at a night with liberal discussions about politics and art. But the mood hardens when the conversation turns to religious issues. Why does Amir keep his Muslim background hidden? Is Emily's fascination with Islam really Orientalism and naivety? Is the rest of society soaked through with Islamophobia? Are all Muslims really Anti-Semites?
When it is revealed that the four also are in conflicts related to love and work, the evening escalates - developing into a couples' dinner from hell.
Playwright Ayad Akhtar wrote Disgraced (translated as Krenket, meaning Offended) in 2012. He has received many awards, including Pulitzer for best drama, and gained a lot of attention for his treatment of controversial issues such as Islamophobia, Anti-Semitism, racism, fanatism, prejudice and identity."
