"We live in a new age. The family, the nation and God have returned to humans on Earth. Three people are tested by what they think are higher powers. What is real, what is true? How should one meet the convictions of others? Is it possible that a god tries to tell us something we don't understand?
A family man, midlife, well situated in the upper layers of society, has a vision of performing a holy sacrifice. The action will make him misunderstood in society, and an outcast among those closest to him: He is to give all his love and intimacy to the beggar Maria. In the garbage storage room nearby two brothers, who are drug addicts, argue who was their parents' favourite. A 17-year-old girl has received a calling to start a holy war, to save the country. Whereas Maria, the only one who has actually led a life in faith, despite all her suffering, has started to doubt.
(...)
The Revelation is a mysterious, yet powerful contemporary analysis, both a vision of doom and a dream play with biblical references. With a pitch-dark, absurd sense of humour, social and existential issues intersect. In Greek, the same word is used for revelation and apocalypse, and doomsday is definitely near in playwright Mattias Anderson's sombre contemporary drama. Anderson has been called Sweden's most exciting contemporary playwright, and the play was well received by the media after opening at The Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm in 2017."
