At the website of The National Stage the following, among other things, is written about Skipet de Zee Ploeg* (The Ship de Zee Ploeg):

"200 years ago, a ship got damaged outside of Bergen. It was filled with emigrants. For the first time, the dramatic, important story of the events aboard the ship de Zee Ploeg in 1817 is adapted for the stage.

War, hunger and religious prosecution characterised Europe. Many families dreamt of a new life in the land of the free, America. In this beautiful, cinematic theatre production, we follow a family that sacrificed everything to travel with the ship de Zee Ploeg. The ship left Amsterdam towards the end of summer 1817. It became a dramatic journey at sea, under inhuman conditions. At the same time, we can see how people stood tall during the storm, helping one another. We also get to see the discussions taking place in Bergen, in public offices, after the shipwreck. The coffers of Bergen were empty at the time, and unemployment was high."

In a press release from The National Stage the following, among other things, is written about the repertoire for 2019:

"Love runs like a red thread through the repertoire.

The newly written production Skipet de Zee Ploeg* (The Ship de Zee Ploeg) by Stig Amdam is a gripping story about decency and loving thy neighbour.

(...)

Skipet de Zee Ploeg is to be performed at the main stage during the spring and during the autumn. It will be a grand, historical costume drama about strong human destinies and great humanitarian challenges. 200 years ago, a ship meant to transport 560 emigrants from the Netherlands to America stranded. The ship, with a cynical captain by the helm, was eventually pulled into the harbour of Bergen. In the performance, we follow the dramatic journey at sea, and we also get insight into the discussions taking place in town after the shipwreck. The orphan children aboard were taken in by families in Bergen, and several of them contributed to development in town at a later time. Skipet de Zee Ploeg is directed by the Swedish theatre legend Hilda Hellwig, and it will become one of the most expansive productions at The National Stage has had for years."
