"With ingredients such as betrayal, sex, poisonous attacks and merciless revelations, the downsides of married life are bared in this modern classic. It is both disturbing and very entertaining to see how the drunken party escalates. And after, we can breathe with relief. At least, we are not that bad!
(...)
The middle-aged married couple Martha and George invite a young professor and his wife home after a university party. Not much time has passed before the young couple has been drawn into the verbal war between the spouses. Perfidious, sharp lines are fired without shame, and the party games grow increasingly daring. (Along the way, the relationship between the two young ones is bared, too.)
With his well-aimed outlook and well-put language, Edward Albee' play immediately became a great hit in 1962. The movie adaption with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton was much talked about in connection with the Oscars, and the spousal drama is among the most performed and critically acclaimed American plays throughout the ages."
