The Children
The Children (2019) was a theatre production by The National Stage, based on the play by Lucy Kirkwood. The production was performed in the theatre's venue Lille Scene.

"The world is out of joint. The nuclear power plant is near destroyed after the last earthquake. We meet a married couple, two retired nuclear scientists, who gets an unexpected visit at their place in the country. All of a sudden, they are confronted with a wide-ranging moral dilemma. How much are we willing to sacrifice to improve the future prospects of our successors?

In seriousness and with a sharp sense of humour, the story of what happens when the retired nuclear scientists are visited by their colleague, whom they have not seen for almost 40 years. The married couple now lives in a small house close to the evacuated zone near the local nuclear power plant. Robin is not willing to let go of their old life, whereas Hazel is focusing on yoga and battling age and decline.
One evening, when someone comes knocking their door, the two of them are forced to account for it all. There is secrecy and a somewhat threatening aspect with the surprise guest. She wants to confront them, but with what - the past or the responsibility for the future?"
