"The Polish poetWisława Szymborska's poems are gifts to discover. She writes wisely and accessible, knife-sharp and witty about the lives we lead, nature and the mundane surrounding us. With wonder, she describes the clouds in the sky, the silence of the plants, the teenager, the puddle, the hand or the telephone receiver.'She is able to capture the pointlessness and sadness of life, but somehow still be affirmative', Woody Allen has said of her.'The Mozart of poetry', the Nobel committee conclucded, when the shy little lady received The Nobel Prize in literature in 1996.
In Poland, everybody reads Wisława Szymborska. In Norway, she is lesser known. In the production Livet er den eneste måten you are given the opportunity to get to know this remarkable woman who was able to place all aspects of life between the lines of her poetry.
The Dutch director Jos Groenier lets the text have centre role in what becomes a stage collage. Here, all the elements - direction, stage design, music, video projection, lighting and acting - support Szymborska's words, whether poetry, notes or some of the limericks she had fun writing. More than a performance, this will be a journey through life, the way Szymborska revealed it.
Onstage are Ellen Horn, Heidi Goldmann and Henriette Marø. They don'trepresent Szymborska herself, but rather three stages of life - which is, according to the Polish poet - random and only a loan, but still the only way."
