Møterommet* (The Meeting Room)

Møterommet* (The Meeting Room) by Trine Hild Blixrud and Marte Sverdrup Liset was a production especially adjusted for the very smallest of children. Møterommet was an intimate and interactive performance – completely on the terms of toddlers. More than theatre in the traditional meaning of the word it was a meeting between children and performers.

In Møterommet* (The Meeting Room)by Trine Hild Blixrud and Marte Sverdrup Liset the children were invited to take part. For some of the children observing from their place in the audience sufficed, while others were tempted to crawl onto the stage floor.

Møterommet was part of Trine Hild Blixrud’s master study. The production aimed to open for toddler’s participation and influence and hence it consisted of improvised interaction between the children in the audience and the performers. The interaction was created through exchange of movements and sounds. This physical interaction made up the interactive performance/event.

The target group was children aged two years or younger, with a maximum of 20 per production.

The opening took place in March 2009 in the kindergarten Universet in Tromsø. The production was next performed in a variety of kindergartens in Tromsø in 2009 and 2010, and it visited the performing arts festival Den Unge Garde (literally: The Young Guard) in Trondheim in September 2009.

Møterommet by Trine Hild Blixrud and Marte Sverdrup Liset was supported by the University of Tromsø and Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

Press coverage

"Møterommet* (The Meeting Room) is a performance directed towards the decidedly youngest target group – those aged zero to two years. There is no real action, but as the title tells, a meeting between performer and audience."
