"A South African musical about a life of fleeing.
Asad is a young Somalian refugee with a traumatic past, miraculously good luck, and a nose for business. After living for years in a refugee camp and having learned to hustle in the rough streets of Ethiopia, he sets out for South Africa - the Promised Land. But once he gets there, he is faced with the violent reality of life in the Johannesburg townships - and now the adventure really begins.
This gripping piece of music theatre portrays some of our time's greatest challenges: crime, human trafficking, migration, poverty, and xenophobia in a magnificent African tale.
The performance is based on Johnny Steinberg's riveting book from 2015, and tells the story of Asad through marvellous and profoundly moving marimba music and songs by the Isango Ensemble. This 24-strong ensemble consists of classically trained and untrained singers from the townships of Cape Town."
