Shirley Valentine
Shirley Valentine (2018) is a planned theatre production by Teatret Vårt (Our Theatre), based on the monologue by Willy Russell. It is performed using the Norwegian title Lilly Valentin. The production opens at Arbeideren, Ålesund, prior to going on tour.
Philipp Stengele directs it.
Astrid Overaa plays the role of Lilly (Shirley). She interpreted the same role for the same theatre in 2003, at the time directed by Erik Ulfsby. You may read more about the 2003 production here.

"Lilly's (Shirley's) friend is a feminist. She has invited Lilly along on a trip to Greece. And Lilly very much wants to go. Her children have grown up and her marriage feels a bit lonely. This is hard to tell Johannes, her husband. So when Lilly finally works up her courage to go to Greece, she leaves a note on the kitchen counter and 14 frozen dinners in the freezer.
The trip to Greece becomes the start of a much longer journey for Lilly.
The funny, heart-warming and wise monologue Shirley Valentine is known and beloved all over the world. A woman who has spent her life working for others suddenly decides to be something for herself. Along the journey towards this destination, we are invited to take part in Lilly's incredibly funny and rich internal life. She has kept this side of herself well hidden. She has the word in her power, Lilly. Especially when nobody listens.

This isn't the first time Astrid Overaa carries the role of Shirley Valentine. 15 years ago, people crowded to see Astrid in the role. We hope they will do that again. Now, we have asked director Philipp Stengele for a production about a woman who is 15 years older, but who still expects more from life."
