In USB - United States of Barents Amund Sjølie Sveen poses these questions: What do people in the region of Barents have in common – except from the feeling of living outside the centre? What happens when the region experiences a potential change from being periphery to being central? Is the opening of the first IKEA store a decisive event in the Barents region history? And why does everyone speak English to everyone else?
USB examines issues in regard to local, global and Northern identity, the power of definition, borders, similarities and dissimilarities in the Arctic area, the new political and economical focus put on Northern areas, and the universal love to IKEA.
USB - United States of Barents by Amund Sjølie Sveen was supported by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs/MFA (travel grant, performing arts).
