"In The Dresser, we invite you backstage, where you gain insight into the life of a touring theatre and their heroic attempts at performing King Lear in the Blitz during World War II:
Sir is an aging actor and a male diva, struggling with illness. He is a competent professional and a recognised interpreter of Shakespeare. But he is also a falling star and a self-obsessed tyrant, who the dresser Sebastian has to handle. Sebastian has been Sir's dresser through 16 years, and acts like a mix of his dog and his parent. His relationship to his boss is ambivalent; he both admires him and finds him self-obsessed, while convincing himself and others that he's greater than he is. After many years in service of the arts, Sir hits a wall after having let things go too far, and in the play, Sebastian does his utmost to get Sir onstage in time for the start of the performance."
