More

In Readymade Baby by Karstein Solli Productions the art term readymade referred to an understanding of the child as one that is ready to meet the artistic expression. The performance was developed in close interaction with children.

Specially designed objects, a doll and costumes, plus other readymades such as umbrellas, megaphones and cleaning cloths, made up the formal and visual frames of the performance. The perceptible appeared through touch, dance, song and other musical expressions.

The readymade art objects by French-American artist Marcel Duchamp stretched and challenged the definition of art. Children 0-3 years old do not yet know the conception of art, but are actively present in the meeting with art work. How do adults relate to that?

Readymade Baby by Karstein Solli Productions was supported by Arts Council Norway and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs/MFA (travel grant/performing arts).
