Gïeje by Åarjelhsaemien Teatere is a humorous and playful theatre dance joik language performance using the aesthetic and dramaturgy of the joik as a starting point. The audience meets five women and a man on a journey. Who they are, where they come from or where they are going are not clear.
In Gïeje by Åarjelhsaemien Teatere the audience knows that the six have been travelling for a long time and that they still have a long way to go. As the joik the performance has an open end, and it seemingly springs out of nothing. As the joik the performance aims to disappear from the audience members’ minds for a while, for so to return with new force in new variations.
Gïeje is a Southern Sami word that can be directly translated to Footprints.
