Vor ret vi tar* (We claim our right)

Vor ret vi tar* (Our right we claim) (1975) was a theatre production by The Arctic Theatre, the world premiere of a play by Klaus Hagerup, written in collaboration with Dag Skogheim. The music was composed by Stefan Ringbom.

Stefan Böhm directed it.

The theme of Vor ret vi tar was workers' history and the growth of the workers' association Nordens Klippe (literally: The cliff of the North) in Kirkenes. The production was made in form of a collage, partly inspired by the proletarian theatre of the 1930es, partly by revue and partly by actual events.

Vor ret vi tar was performed as a visiting performance at Chateau Neuf in Oslo and in Stockholm.

In Jens Harald Eilertsen's history book Polare scener. Nordnorsk teaterhistorie 1971-2000(literally: Arctic stages. Northern Norwegian theatre history 1971-2000),Klaus Hagerup tells about the process behind Vor ret vi tar* (Our right we claim). He was overworked and bedridden at the start of the process:

"Dag wasn't interested in writing drama, but very interested in collaborating. He was a walking encyclopaedia. (...) When the Stefans came, Böhm and Ringbom, it took off. Vor ret vi tar is developed with them.Eventually, I came back to health, and I didn't find it problematic any more. We discussed, I ran into the next room, wrote and returned with new text suggestions."
