Hassany & Diven
Hassany & Diven by writer and director Elyas Poorgholam is a play for children and youth about Iranian mythology, based on traditional stories and mythology from Iran and its neighbouring countries such Afghanistan, Azerbaijan and Kurdistan. It had its world wide premiere in The Open Theatre (Det Åpne Teater) the autumn of 2008. The action is connected to the celebration of Nårooz, the Iranian New Year celebration, coinciding with the vernal equinox.

The production was based on the fairytale Hassany & Diven by Poorgholam tells about Uncle Nårooz and Hagi Firooz, the messenger of spring who comes to warn that in one week Uncle Nårooz will arrive to spread joy and hope among people. Nårooz represents the light returning, the forces driving the dark times away. But in this story the dark troll named Diven holds Nårooz captive. The messenger of spring and spring itself won’t come. But the children rejoice and manage, aided by light and dance, to free Uncle Nårooz and hence bringing the light, joy and security back.
Hassany & Diven by Elyas Poorgholam was performed during the festival Twist 08, in collaboration between Det Åpne Teater (The Open Theatre), The Norwegian Touring Theatre and Nordic Black Theatre.
