Escape the Universe

"The universe is shared by all people. Its size, beauty and unfathomable complexity fascinate, but can be much to take in for each of us.
At the same time, everyday life comes with demands one must meet. Accumulated knowledge, relationships to maintain and trivial tasks to be done, may be a hindrance to looking up, think new thoughts and dream of other ways to live.
The artists of By Proxy nullify gravity in an invitation to celebrate the universe. Escape the Universe is an artistic experiment of thoughts, driven forth by an urge for a poetic shelter, a room in which science, fantasy and fiction mix freely. The basis of this escape is a sincere wish to handle the potential of the universe's seemingly endless and intangible character. Through establishing another space and a celebration of cosmic dimensions, the artists and the members of the audience can share their visions for the future, and perhaps also unveil which values matter the most, here and now, in this life on earth."

"Escape the Universe is performing arts as social happening. Punch is served and cake is served. The actors put away the spectator's outerwear, and give out floating wests, meant to be used as pillows when sitting on the floor, in return. The disaster in question is too enormous for floating wests. We talk of the death of the sun and the end of the universe. This apocalyptic consciousness lies within and beneath all that happens in Escape the Universe. The artists, with education background as actors and stage designers at The Norwegian Theatre Academy in Fredrikstad (and related to other artists educated in the same institution) call Escape the Universe 'a poetic shelter, a room in which science, fantasy and fiction mix freely'."
