Markings

Markings - the longest journey is the journey within by Petter A. Goldstine:

He can't find words. How can one describe something which hasn't happened? Or, something which happened in a former life? I can tell you that, through a series of coincidences, not at my own initiative, found out who he was in a former life. I can't correctly tell you how it happened, it wasn't necessarily chronological, but I can say that it involved a cup of tea, a meeting with a famed Dutch astrologer and that the last pieces of the puzzle fell into place in a small town in Devon, UK. Such was the prelude to Markings.

Markings is a play inspired by Dag Hammarskjöld, the second UN secretary general. Hammarskjöld was a Christian mystic and a respected statesman at the same time. This was what interests him – the connection between the spiritual and the political. Throughout the years as an activist he had seen an abundance of people wanting to save the world, while being incapable of maintaining the relationships to the people closest to themselves. As if one can save the world without helping oneself first. After reading Hammarskjöld's biography and private diaries something more subtle rose to the surface. The connection between outer action and inner growth, and the strength rising.

Markings is equal parts workshop, lecture and meditation. Based on Hammarskjöld's own writings and biographic material, Markings is a performance decided by how the cards are laid out. No performance will be exactly the same as another.
