Goodbye, Mr. Muffin

Goodbye. Mr. Muffin is a theatre production for children by Teater UNO. Mr. Muffin was once a young, strong guinea pig who was able to carry a whole cucumber on his back. Now he is old and grey and he mostly sits inside his home chewing almonds while looking back, thinking about the times he has shared with those he has loved the most. But then one day Mr. Muffin’s stomach starts hurting terribly.

In Goodbye, Mr. Muffinby Teater UNO Mr. Muffin makes a list of the good things in his life:
1 very nice and wise wife
6 fluffy little children
1 little house with a chimney and a mail box, lots of love, cucumbers, hay and dandelions.

As philosophy and ethic get steadily more important in schools and kindergartens, Goodbye, Mr. Muffincan be used as a starting point for a conversation about the most important questions in our lives, such as: Who are we? What is the good life? What happens when we die?

Teater UNO still performs Goodbye, Mr. Muffin every year in the church Nykirken where the children in attendance take part in an exchange with the priest after the production, based in the subject of the production; death.

Goodbye, Mr. Muffinwas written by Ulf Nilsson and was awarded the prize for best book for children of the year, in Sweden 2002. It has been adapted for the theatre several times. For this production the book has been adapted by Annicke Gill.
