According to Knut Nygaard and Eiliv Eide's history book Den Nationale Scene. 1931-1976 (literally: The National Stage. 1931-1976), the revue was built around a story in which two rural youths visited the city, but eventually returned to their mountain home. "Thus, and by using Ole Bull's På solen jeg ser as a musical frame, the performance got a national tone to it, pleasing the audiences without insulting the ones in power. But a strong song with punch was lacking. Naturally, it wasn't easy to produce a revue beneath the censor's eye, and Ole Bull Teatret's small stage did not give room for great pomp or plastic circumstance. Still, one was able to deliver quite a few subtleties and hints to the current situation", the two of them write.
