Jan Herwitz
Jan Herwitz (1949) was a theatre production by The National Stage, based on a comedy by Hans Wiers-Jenssen.
Doris Johannessen directed it.
Rolf Berntzen played the title role.
Karl Bergmann played the role of Bøschen.
During the 1949 season, Jan Herwitz was performed 73 times, at the time a record for The National Stage.
Jan Herwitz was also performed in 1950, as one of several productions marking the 100th anniversary of Det Norske Theater, the predecessor of The National Stage.
Jan Herwitz was revived in 1951. During this season, four performances were given.
Jan Herwitz was revived again in 1952, as a benefit performance for Karl Bergmann, who turned 70 years. During this season, it was performed nine times.
It was revived again in 1957, with a run of 32 performances. The performance November 15 was a gala performance honouring Bergmann, at the occasion of his 75th birthday.
Jan Herwitz was revived in 1960. It was produced as a replacement for Henry IV, which was cancelled due to illness. 17 performances were given during this season. Later during the same season, a new, reimagined version of the play was produced during Bergen International Festival.
Jan Herwitz was also performed in 1961, one time only, again as a benefit performance for Karl Bergmann, who had played the role of Bøschen in every production of Jan Herwitz at The National Stage, from the first time it was produced in 1913, with the exception of the version performed during Bergen International Festival in 1960.
