In her writing Marguerite Duras described love, sexuality and strong emotions. The Malady of Death powerfully and with a strong, erotic undercurrent describes the game between a man and a woman. We meet violent sensuality in a dream-like atmosphere.
How can we convey an erotically loaded text to the audience of today?
A man has paid a woman to join her in a room by the ocean. He wants to attempt loving, to seek himself through being with her. The text asks: Is it a mortal illness, not being able to love?
Marguerite Duras is known for texts including The Lover and Hiroshima, my love.
The production was supported by Arts Council Norway, the freedom of expression foundation Fritt Ord and the municipality of Oslo.

"It is penetrating, beautiful and awful (...) a text so heavy with erotic, the death wish and longing, one can barely breathe."
Vårt Land, Liv Riiser, April 24 2010
"One has to respect Visjoner's ambition to explore erotic in such a demanding, revealing intimate format."
Therese Bjørneboe, Aftenposten, April 25 2010
"With a silent, un-theatrical intensity Juni Dahr and Lars Øyno brings the violent, but really still unreleased erotic tension of the text to life. The interaction between them is strong, precise and finely tuned."
IdaLou Larsen, Klassekampen, April 28 2010
