"Robert runs a small firm, but wishes to retire to spend his time on his new hobby; his pigeons. He dreams of disappearing without a trace. His wife Gerlinde does not think this is a good idea, nor do his colleague Holger. Gerlinde dreams of the simple life in Tuscany, and thus she MUST buy the newest Italian espresso machine, whereas Holger is not interested in taking over Robert's position under any circumstance. He feels harassed by his colleagues. For good reasons: He is actually trying to quit his job, but he doesn't quite feel that his boss listens to him. This his wife Natalie thinks is DAMNED NONSENSE. She has her own little problem in controlling her anger, and had honestly hoped for some more progress in Holger's career.
All the characters of David Gieselmann's The Pigeons struggle, each in their way, to feel happy for real. Perhaps it would work to go to a restaurant? Or what about a Dutch au pair, just to spice up life a little? Or perhaps your shrink has the answer? Provided he is able to remember your name, first.
The whole thing goes - to put it mildly - not quite as planned. When Robert actually does disappear, without his saved funds, a half-brother nobody has heard of before shows up. Or is this Robert, who has returned?"
