"No production has been performed as many times at The National Theatre as Sverre Brandt's Journey to the Christmas Star. The story of Sonja, and how she finally rediscovers the Christmas Star, has spellbound children and adults for many generations, since it was first staged the Christmas of 1924.
This time, the prize-awarded director Kjersti Horn is the one to blow new life into Brandt's fairytale universe. The Christmas joy and theatrical magic that have delighted young and old ones alike for almost one hundred years, will be developed. Like ever, the production is to be staged on the children's conditions - and be renewed where it is needed, to open the Christmas theatre tradition for all the children growing up in our day.
Through using games, humour and elements from the whole history of theatre, in stage design and costumes, the production's warm Christmas nostalgia will be preserved and the important message of the play cultivated: If one follows one's heart and is good toward others, one will conquer all that is painful and hard - a message that is at least as relevant today as when the play was written."
