pli à pli
pli à pli (1998) was Ingun Bjørnsgaard Prosjekt's third journey into the periphery of the Western mind. Through poignant images and dramatic subtlety Ingun Bjørnsgaard depicts our minor defects, shortcomings and embarrassments. The Flux Position of an Insulted Eye (1996) explored the point of view of a third excluded party; The Solitary Shame Announced by a Piano (1997) portrayed the notion of shame and its importance for our personal identity; in pli à pli, however, the focus was transferred to a landscape of courtly love, eroticism and sensual pleasure and of desperation, aggression and joy.

Ingun Bjørnsgaard Prosjekt created in pli à pli a piece that, through its extreme artificiality, revealed aspects of identity related to eroticism and corporeality in an everyday manner. The ballet’s choreographic signatures and characteristic theatrical gestures created an experience of beauty connected with critical aspects of gender, ethics and conventions. pli à pli was a dance that shortcut the petit mort with a thrilling glance that was absolutely lethal, yet completely enchanting.
pli à pli by Ingun Bjørnsgaard Prosjekt was supported by: Arts Council Norway, Kaleidoscope Programme – European Commission, The Norwegian Composers’ Fund, Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The Norwegian Fund for Performing Artists and The Audio Visual Fund.
