Sherry Show
Sherry Show by Ann Liv Young (USA). Sherry is Ann Liv Young’s healing alter ego. What was meant to be a variation over the end scene in Snow White ended as its own show. In an attempt of realising a deep-felt wish to help her fellow humans out of their imagined and unknown problems, Sherry takes advantage of a load of techniques from revival meetings and AA-meetings to traditional psychological therapy, mayonnaise and chocolate sauce.

Sherry is the kind to create uproar. Perhaps it was the raw pig’s foot she once used as a masturbation tool in front of the audience, an otherwise casual moment in a larger project about the normalisation of female desire, or perhaps it is the honest, direct and vulgar tone with which she addresses her audience, to shake it out of a self-satisfactory mood. All stage art is about sex and power, according to Ann Liv Young, either we are aware of it or not. We are all more or less obsessed with power and sexuality. Via her web site the artist sells everything from Sherry’s used tampons to broken microphones.
Ann Liv Young studied at LABAN in London and graduated the Hollins University’s dance study in 2003. Among other places, she has performed at PS1 Contemporary Art Center and The American Dance Festival, she takes part in Michael Blackwood’s documentary "New York Dance: States of Performance" (2010) and tours USA and Europe a lot. Ann Liv Young switches between productions, all of them creative adaptions of well-known stories such as Snow White, the story about George and Martha Washington (The Bagwell in Me) and Cinderella. Aside pop artistic elements several of the performances contains sexual acts and more or less improvised and provocative outbursts directed towards the company and the audience.

"vulgar, raunchy, funny, earsplittingly loud" – Time Out, New York
"Ann Liv Young has been described as the bad girl of US performance. That might just be another way of saying that, unusually for a woman, she doesn't try to please. Her default setting is obnoxious - as if she doesn't give a damn. I reckon she does. Quite a lot." - Lyn Gardner, The Guardian
