About The Wizard of Oz

The Wizard of Oz (1986) was a musical theatre production by Piratteatret in collaboration with Teaterselskapet Saker og Slips. The production was performed using the Norwegian title Den fantasifullmystirare veien til Oz (a literal translation of which would be something along the line of The imagination-rich mysterious way to Oz, but with a made up compressed adjective) was based on stories by Lyman Frank Baum, in a theatrical adaption by Sessa Sidselrud and Tove Hauge and with music by Tor Halmrast. The production had its premiere at the main stage of Black Box Teater, in its facilities at Aker Brygge.

Sessa Sidselrud directed it.

Mette Hauge played the role of Dorothy, called Dorothea.

    Press review

Writer and date unknown, Morgenbladet [Oslo]:
"Family musical in modern clothing, based on the classic The Wizard of Oz. [...] Saturday's opening at Black Box [...] must be Norwegian independent performing arts' greatest effort ever: A family musical that is almost good enough."

Writer and date unknown, Aftenposten [Oslo]:
"Oz has become a Cats for the children, with witty lyrics and irresistible witches and animals."
