More about The Tiger of Sibiu

At the webpage of The National Theatre the following, among other things, is written about The Tiger of Sibiu:

"In a small European town, with a typical medieval-like square and with familiar patterns and traditions, a tiger suddenly escapes the zoological gardens. Panic and chaos break out, and in hindsight, the citizens try to understand what really happened.

The Tiger of Sibiu, by the acknowledged Romanian playwright Gianina Cărbunariu, is based on a real story, when a Siberian tiger in 2011 fled the zoo of the Romanian town Sibiu. Out of this event, and out of interviews with people in the town, she tells a story about the fear of the unknown and how we relate to what is different from us. In a playful form, Cărbunariu gives a specific image of our contemporary day - the exposed situation of the Romani people, the arguments surrounding 'us' and 'the others' and how insecurity connected to the future changes attitudes and perspectives in people around us.

The Tiger of Sibiu is the first production of the recently started Jupither Josephsson Theater Company. Sofia Jupither, who is the artistic director, directs it."

The production opens September 4 at The Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm.
