"As it is, the story about Climbing Mouse and the other animals in the Hunchback Wood was first broadcast as an audio play in the radio's children programme in 1953, and it was published as a book the same year. Later Thorbjørn Egner himself adapted the material for the theatre. The first time the play was staged at The National Theatre was in 1964. Egner instructed it himself and also designed the stage design. Naturally, he knew what the Hunchback Wood looked like!
In 2015, Kim Haugen is staging the production. He finds it important to maintain Egner's poetic and musical universe, and at the same time underline the humour and the excitement of the story. Haugen aims to involve and entertain his audience as much today as the first time it was staged at The National Theatre."
