"In Jean de France Hans Frandsen returns to the town of his birth after a year as a student in Paris. He has changed styles into highest Parisian fashion and wants to be addressed as Jean de France. His mother tongue he has left completely, but he has not been able to learn proper French.
His inheritance is spent, and his fiancée Elsebet is very angry, and her father Jeronimus is near having a stroke every time Jean waltzes through the main street. Elsebet would rather have her secret lover Antonius, and the servants Marthe and Espen have an idea that might just solve this. Soon the mysterious 'Madame de la Fleche' shows up from nothing to throw some foreign love onto Jean de France and to teach him the latest new fashions from Paris..."
