Three Sisters

Three Sisters was a theatre production by The National Theatre, produced in 2014, and based on the play by Anton Chekhov. The production was staged first at The National Theatre's rear stage, later at the stage belonging to The Norwegian Touring Theatre in Nydalen. The performances in 2016 were located at Black Box Teater.

Hanne Tømta directed it.

Trine Wiggen, Mariann Hole and Laila Goody acted in the title roles. When the production was revived in 2016, Hole was on maternal leave, and Hanne Skille Reitan took over the role of Irina.

Three Sisters received three nominations for The Hedda Award 2015 and won two of the awards. Hanne Tømta won the award in the best direction category, and Espen Skjønberg won the best supporting actor award for the role of Ivan Chebutykin. The Hedda Jury gave the following reason for the award to Tømta:

"The great classics are familiar texts. The quality is unquestioned, and with that, the risk that the director will fail also is major. The award winner in the best direction category has, with many small, intelligent choices, succeeded in showing the text s wise and many-layered humanity. Her choices make the play with its wide range of characters fresh to us, it is as if we see an old acquaintance for the first time.

The best direction award goes to Hanne Tømta."

The Hedda Jury gave the following reason for the award to Skjønberg:

"A successful performance is depending of actors who dare to provide each other with energy. Some have the ability to make that energy electrical. At the same time, the award winner succeeds in giving his character a secret life of his own. This year's winner has an intensity that adds new meaning to the role he is acting. This ability he has developed and refined through a long, very long, life as an actor.

The best supporting actor award goes to Espen Skjønberg."
